Privacy Technologies Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Appliance Mfg. Co. was created on November 28, 2000.  Privacy Technologies’ mission is to develop innovative products and services that protect people’s rights to privacy and security.

Privacy Technologies launched its first product, the TeleZapper®, in the late 3rd quarter of 2001 with great success. The original TeleZapper® (TZ800) is a small black box that attaches to a telephone line and reduces the number of frustrating computer-dialed telemarketing calls. Privacy Technologies introduced an enhanced version of the TeleZapper® (TZ900) in 2002. This new model has a sleeker, trimmer design and is battery powered. It can also be programmed to emit from one (Basic Privacy) to three tones (Advanced Privacy), providing added protection against unwanted calls.

Here’s how it works: Computers dial the majority of all telemarketing calls. The TeleZapper® is designed to use the computer’s predictive dialing technology against it. When you or your answering machine picks up a call, the TeleZapper emits a tone or series of tones to "fool" the computer into thinking your number is disconnected. Instead of connecting you to a salesperson, the conputer drops the call and stores your number as disconnected in its database. Over time, as your number is removed from more and more databases, frustrating telemarketing calls become fewer and fewer.

The TeleZapper® feature can now be found inside three models of VTech® phones (VT2528, VT2558 and VT2568). This partnership provides another option to significantly reduce telemarketing calls.
